The Virgo Tale

Dark Lore · 2026-09-08
In the suffocating veil of a long-forgotten dawn, when the world was yet fresh from the golden light of creation, Astraea stirred. Her ethereal form glimmered like moonlight on a summer's eve, her presence a whispered promise of justice to come. For in an era where men ruled with reckless abandon and greed consumed their souls, she stood as a beacon of duty. As the last rays of sunlight faded behind the mountains, Astraea's radiance illuminated the ravaged landscape. The once-verdant fields lay barren, scorched by the relentless winds that howled through the desolate valleys like mournful wails. Her people, the chosen few who bore her bloodline, toiled in vain, their labor fueled by a hunger that seemed insatiable. But as time went on, Astraea's beauty began to fade, her light growing dimmer with each passing year. The disease of excess had taken hold, corrupting the hearts of men and siphoning away the very essence of justice from the world. And so, in a desperate bid to save what was left of their realm, she turned to the stars. Like a ghostly apparition, Astraea descended into the heavens, her form dissolving into a shimmering mist that coalesced into the constellation Virgo. Her people, sensing her presence, trembled with fear as they beheld the last of the immortals, their leader in justice, now lost to them forever. In the silence that followed, Astraea's voice echoed across the cosmos, a haunting melody that seemed to weave a spell of despair. "I am no longer among you," she whispered, her words carried on the wind like a death knell. "I have fled this earth, leaving behind a world consumed by darkness and greed." And so, the Brazen Race was born – a cursed tribe of men who would forever be bound to the whims of their own selfish desires. Theirs was a legacy of bloodstained fields, ravaged cities, and an endless cycle of violence that would haunt the cosmos for eternity. As the ages passed, Astraea's constellation Virgo faded into the distance, a ghostly reminder of a time when justice was real, but now lost forever in the shadows. Her people were left to whisper stories of their fallen leader, their hearts heavy with the weight of a legacy that would never be redeemed.

After "In the Bleak Midwinter (A Christmas Carol)" (Christina Rossetti)

Poem · 2026-09-08
In the crimson twilight's hush Stars like lanterns softly rush, Earth's dark petals unfold, A midnight bloom of gold; Moonlight whispers secrets low, Echoes of a long-forgotten vow, The wind stirs, a lonely sigh, As shadows dance and twirl by; Our hearts, like fallen leaves, are bare, The forest silent, cold as stone, Yet in the darkness, a spark remains, A flame that flickers, still, alone; In this bleak world, we search for light, And offer what our souls can hold tight.
